AR-15 Gas Rings and Gas Ring Sets

The gas rings in your AR-15 are designed to seal the gasses from a fired round in the bolt carrier assembly. These gasses are used to open the bolt from battery after a round has been fired to allow the bolt to travel to the rear and cause the spent shell to be ejected from the weapon.

Proper gas ring function is critical for consistant cycling of the weapon and directly contributes to the accuracy of the weapon.

The gas rings on your AR-15 are one of the most important components of the gas system. They are wear parts and will need to be replaced as they wear or lose tension.

These are the two main types of Gas Rings used in the AR-15. The multiple ring design is what is typically found in most weapons as well as the M4 Carbine. The Spiral wound one-piece design helps to retain more gasses than the multiple ring design. These can be helpful in a weapon with loose tolerances or a weapon that has had a lot of rounds through it.
