AR Stoner's original design for the M16-A1 was this beauty of a pin which was replaced by the military as a cost cutting effort. These pins made from 1018 steel, hardened and Parkerized were much stronger than the pins that the military chose as a replacement.

Sprinco Firing pin retainin pins use the current design as currently in use by the military for the M-4. These pins, however, are made in accordance with ASTM A313 17.7 PH, and MIL-W-13855 Applies. The pins are Moly plated and Cryogenically processed for 3-7 times the duty cycle of the standard MIL-Spec retaining pins.
